Sleep Out
The Sleep Out
Prior to this Sleep Out event, I took part in the annual event called Street Draw 24. Where Artists from all over Cornwall and would come and draw on the streets for 24hrs.
We would create work, capturing the streets and life of the town, to exhibit and raise money for the charity St Petrocs.
As someone who has experienced how difficult it is to secure a home and put roots down, these events are so personal to me. So I was absolutely honoured to be asked if I could come and capture the evening!
I could not of guessed, the people I met, the works I made. I couldn’t stop drawing for the whole night!
We aimed to create 20 artworks each. So that we would have in total 100 artworks to be given as gifts to all the participants as a thank you. I was especially honoured when singers from the choir came up to me, to ask for specific drawings that they watched me make of them.
These are the events that I live for!
To capture what can happen when community comes together.
About
Eden Project Sleep Out
“For the last eleven years the Eden Project has hosted an annual Sleep Out outside the Biomes, raising thousands of pounds for local homelessness charities; St Petrocs and the Amber Foundation.”
“Participants are invited to sleep underneath the canopy of the Link Building between our Biomes to get a brief insight into what it's like to be a rough sleeper - if only for one night.”
“The aim is not to replicate homelessness, but to raise awareness and vital funds for local charities dedicated to making a difference.”
“Last year, around 90 participants took part on a chilly night at Eden and raised over £17,000 for the two charities.”
